강대임 박사는 1982년부터 한국 표준과학연구원에서 측정표준연구를 시작하여 힘표준기 정확도 평가기술 개발로 2002년에는 과학기술부가 선정한 '이달의 과학기술자상'을 수상하였으며, 2009년부터는 국제측정연합(IMEKO) 회장으로 활동하면서 국제 측정표준을 주도하고 있다.

연구를 왜 하는가라는 질문에 가치 창출과 삶의 질 제고라고 즉가 답해오던 그가 요즘 관심을 갖는 것은 인간과 기계의 인터페이스 융합연구를 통한 장애우들의 어려움을 해결해주는 도우미를 개발하는 것이다. 그는 앞을 따뜻한 과학기술이 왜 필요한지를 국민들에게 알리어 연구자나 정부관계자뿐만 아니라 국민들이 따뜻한 과학기술에 관심을 갖도록 하는데 작은 역할을 하고 싶어 한다.

Kang, Dae-im has studied on measurement standard at KRISS (Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science) since 1982, and was awarded the scientist for the month in developing assessment technology on force standard in 2002. 

He is charging the principal of International Measurement Confederation(IMEKO) and is leading international measurement standard since 2009. "The purpose of study is creating value and improving the quality of life", he has always answered the question why he studies. He is interested in developing helpers who can help the handicapped through research in interface between human and technology fusion nowadays. He informs the public of why we need well-intentioned technology and finally turn not only researcher and public officer but also the public on the technology.
