이선희  연사님, UST 석사과정 

 

 어렸을 때부터 초등학교 선생님을 꿈꿔오다가 고등학교 때 제임스 왓슨의 ‘이중나선’ 책을 읽고 생물학에 빠져 생명과학부에 입학하게 되었다. 대학교에 들어와 여성과학자의 훌륭한 롤모델로 삼게된 서울대 김빛내리 교수님의 micro RNA 관련 논문들을 접하면서 연구원의 꿈을 확고히 가지게 되었지만 안정된 취업을 원하시는 부모님의 극심한 반대로 졸업 후 은행에 입사하게 된다. 

그러나, 생물학 연구에 대한 열망으로 안정된 직장에 과감히 사표를 던지고 새로운 출발선에 선 마음으로 대학원 진학을 결심하게 된다. 현재 과학기술연합대학원 대학교 한국화학연구원 캠퍼스 의약 및 약품화학 석사과정에 재학중이다.

꿈을 향해 출발선상에서 이제 막 달리기 시작한 그녀는 말한다. “평생 한결같은 끈기와 열정으로 생명에 대한 경외감을 가지고 생물학 분야에 한 획을 그을 수 있는 제2의 제인구달, 로잘린드 프랭클린과 같은 여성과학자가 되겠다” 고.

The master’s course of University of Science and Technology (UST)

  

Lee Sun-hee has always dreamed of being a elementary teacher since she was young. She read the  Double Helix written by James D. Watson and became interested in the Life Science. She was eventually admitted to the UST, majoring in Life Science. After getting into university, she met a thesis about micro RNA written by Kim Bitnaeri and had a big dream of becoming a researcher.

After graduating, however, she entered the bank because her parents wished her to get a stable job. However, she finally left the company and decided to enter the graduate school because of her strong desire of researching on biology.

She is studying a master's degree in Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology at UST. "I always bear in mind to contemplate the fields of biology in having a consistent tenacity and passion will be a great female scientists likes of Jane Goodall and Rosalind Franklin,” she said.
